National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Message from the BCRCC Executive Committee

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Message from the BCRCC Executive Committee

Dear BCRCC Members:

September 30 is now a federal statutory holiday, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day is meant to recognize the legacy of residential schools in Canada and honour the Indigenous survivors, their families, and their communities. It also demonstrates a commitment to reconciliation and affirms that ‘Every Child Matters.’

As such, BCRCC members will be entitled to a day off from work on September 30. If you work on that day, you will be entitled to overtime as per the collective agreement.

We encourage every member to participate in a ceremony or gathering to commemorate this important day, or at least take a few moments to reflect or learn about what you may do to help bring about meaningful reconciliation. You can start by simply wearing an orange shirt on September 30.

Sincerely,

The BCRCC Executive Committee
